I've been impressed by the way John intentionally plans out his tasks and executes them. His system naturally creates documentation and accountability. I found it inspiring. It also tends to rub off on his teammates a bit - raising the bar for the whole group. This is a bit tricky in a contractor role, but if he takes the plunge into a leadership position again I'd say to try to make a practice of stepping back from the minutia of the team's daily work to focus on higher-level, strategic/process thinking, which might mean also getting really comfortable with delegating, even when you know the person to whom you've delegated is going to screw up a bit. :)
